on Scrub Road Extension.
16/06/07
Dear Councillor.
My wife wrote to you recently with our concerns over this extension
and over the past couple of days we received a letter from you updating
us on this project.
I am at a loss how you can make a statement to say that traffic
on Scrub road will reduce as result of this extension?
I am also very concerned that your methods shy away from open public
consultation. You intend to send a survey to gain the feedback from
the people of Carindale – this technique is destined to be
a disaster and can be rigged – yes rigged. If you believe
in democracy hold an open public consultation and have a show of
hands with local newspapers present to publish the result.
Our story for what its worth I will keep brief…
We moved from the UK to start a new life in Australia and picked
Mount Gravatt in Brisbane after having never even visited Australia.
We spent a year in rented accommodation on Wisteria (off Creek Road)
and decided to purchase a house in Carindale after being attracted
by its beauty, parks and quiet surroundings. Property in Carindale
was premium priced but we decided that it was worth the extra cost
for this truly idyllic life style. Four Months ago we moved into
Pacific close, our property having views over this beautiful area,
parks and golf club. My wife gave birth to our daughter and life
couldn’t get much better. Then we learnt of this disaster
which will increase traffic on Scrub road.
Currently I need to access Scrub road from Ewer street every morning
to go to work and this exercise is both dangerous (due to limited
visibility of incoming traffic from the right) and time consuming
(I can assure you that there will be a serious accident here unless
something is done to improve the junction). My son and I often cross
the same road to access the parklands on our cycles using the traffic
islands as a safe area as cars whiz by. This is the same route that
will carry many people taking a short cut to the gateway and transporters
from Bryan Byrt Ford and large noisy trucks feeding Bunning’s
as well as other industrial companies on Wecker rd if the proposed
extension goes ahead. What joy the local residents will have if
your project goes ahead! It will be a disaster.
Houses on either side of us are currently for sale as people try
to leave the area before your proposal goes ahead and the house
prices in the area I expect will also suffer.
My wife walks my son to Belmont school – again one of the
reasons why we moved to this area. However the route already is
one full of dangerous crossings and car fumes which my daughter
of 8 weeks is breathing in. Again – can you picture this after
your proposed extension? On a point of the wonderful wildlife in
this area we have already - seen result of road kill. Living near
the Belmont reserve we have seen carcasses of Kangaroo’s –
yes Kangaroos in Carindale, Snakes, Possums, Koala’s and beautiful
birds.
I have been told that you’re doing this to delay higher costs
in upgrading other junctions on Creek road – this may or may
not be right and to be honest I am not bothered either way. You
just need to listen to the people of Carindale (the same people
who elected you) and hold this public consultation rather than a
hidden survey, or is this a ploy to continue anyway - prove me wrong.
I came across this website this morning whilst trying to find the
e-mail address for MECA. Again this is what the people of Carindale
are saying, are you going to listen to them?
I am open to meet with you; however I am only one of many voices
and believe this needs to be aired in the open once and for all.
We attended the last MECA meeting that was held in Park near the
Christian Outreach centre which you attended and witnessed the overwhelming
majority against this project. We need the same again on a larger
scale.
I await your reply
