Mount Gravatt PCYC receives funding boost
16 May 2007
The Mount Gravatt Police-Citizens Youth Club (PCYC) will continue
its support of local young people, thanks to Queensland Government
funding totalling $201,000.
Youth Minister Warren Pitt said the grant would enable the Mount
Gravatt PCYC to fund the employment of a youth development coordinator
and a youth arts worker.
Mr Pitt said the Mount Gravatt PCYC would receive $67,000 a year
for three years, adding to the ongoing financial support from the
Department of Communities since 2004.
"This funding will ensure that young people, aged between
12 and 18, living in the Mount Gravatt area can continue to enjoy
the current level of support and encouragement provided by their
local PCYC," Mr Pitt said.
"The Queensland Government is committed to supporting community
organisations which engage with young people and offer them a range
of youth-orientated activities and support mechanisms."
Police Minister and Member for Mt Gravatt Judy Spence said the
youth development coordinator's position involved tasks such as
identifying funding opportunities, encouraging young people to take
part in community events, and developing partnerships within the
local community.
"For the past two years the youth development coordinator
has increased the participation young people in various activities
and helped to build partnerships and promote the Mount Gravatt PCYC,"
he said.
"I am pleased that the Department of Communities is continuing
its support for this important role and I'm happy to continue promoting
the vital work of this community group."
