Tingalpa
and Carindale ICT companies show products in the Middle
East and United States
Minister for Small Business, Information
Technology Policy and Multicultural Affairs
The Honourable Chris Cummins
Wednesday, June 07, 2006
Two innovative,
information and communications technology (ICT) companies
will receive up to $5,000 each from the Beattie Government
to offset their costs in attending recent overseas trade
shows.
Minister for
Small Business and Information Technology Policy Chris Cummins
today announced Tingalpa’s Madison Technologies and
Carindale’s Outback Imaging Pty Ltd as successful
applicants in the latest round of the International Trade
Show Assistance Program (ITSAP).
“Madison
Technologies, a telecommunications/ICT product supplier
and manufacturer, is building its market presence in the
Middle East,” Mr Cummins said.
“The
company is a major supplier of ICT structured cabling systems
and related products to telecommunications, broadcast, audiovisual,
data, security and electrical wholesale businesses.
“The
company turned over about $8 million in 2002 and more than
$30 million in 2005, with growth attributed to huge demand
for the company’s cutting-edge fibre optic technology.”
Mr Cummins
said following successful bids for a number of lucrative
contracts in Dubai, the company opened an office in Bahrain
in January this year, its first off-shore business unit.
Madison Technologies
attended Project Qatar 2006, the 4th International Trade
Exhibition for Construction Technology, Building Materials,
Equipment and Environmental Technology in Doha, Qatar, in
May.
Madison Technologies’
Managing Director and owner David Redfern said Doha was
becoming one of the hottest construction spots in the world,
with US$50 billion planned for public sector infrastructure
projects.
“The
Qatari government is actively diversifying the national
economy from being dependant on oil to a multifunctional
one and this has resulted in a big boom in the construction
sector, including modernising the country’s infrastructure,”
Mr Redfern said.
“So the
exhibition offered a fantastic opportunity to us to get
in on the action – through contact with local government
and business leaders and by displaying our products and
services.”
Mr Cummins
said Madison had also received a $20,000 Queensland Industry
Development Scheme grant in 2000.
Outback Imaging,
formed in 2002, is an Australian-owned software research
and development company specialising in document capture,
through scanning, importing, conversion, routing and output.
Mr Cummins
said the company had attended the 2006 Association of Information
and Image Management (AIIM) Conference and Expo in Philadelphia
in May.
Outback’s
Managing Director Mike Kirkby said the AIIM Conference and
Expo was one of the world’s largest content and information
management events and this year attracted more than 20,000
visitors from 62 countries.
“This
funding support has also given us the opportunity to gain
access to the CEOs and managing directors of many overseas
organisations,” he said.
“This
is important. If you’re going to break into international
markets, you need to establish the key contacts and global
alliances to ensure success. While you can establish some
of those via email and phone from back home, really, pressing
the flesh is the best way to make enduring partnerships.
“Thanks
to the Queensland Government, we’ve been able to do
just that and we’re hoping we can now build on the
alliances we’ve formed in Philadelphia.”
Mr Cummins
said the ITSAP program had so far helped Queensland businesses
generate immediate export sales of close to $5.4 million.
Biotech or
ICT businesses with identified export markets or export
ready products or services should apply for International
Trade Show Assistance Program funding.
ITSAP Round
14 opens on 13th June and closes on 14th July. Application
forms are available from the State Government’s Information
Industries Bureau website at www.iib.qld.gov.au/itsap.
